ICPR is Europe's leading gathering of psychedelic scientists, clinicians, and policymakers. Participants can play an important role in the discourse, but they are often missing. However, the financial and logistical barriers can make it difficult toattend. Through the Fellowship, a selected group of individuals who have undergone psychedelic-assisted therapy and want to contribute their first-hand perspectives to the research conversation will have their registration, travel, and accommodation covered. Participants will take part in curated sessions alongside researchers and clinicians, as equals in the discussion.
The Psychedelic Participant Advocacy Network (PsyPAN) is supporting the participants, including by providing peer-led emotional support before, during, and after the conference. This reflects a core principle of the project: inclusion that is meaningful and safe.
The project is led by Dr. Joost Breeksema, Executive Director of the OPEN Foundation and a postdoctoral researcher specialised in qualitative research and patient perspectives of psychedelic therapy. His academic work, including published studies on patient experiences across psilocybin, MDMA, and esketamine trials, ensures that the Fellowship is grounded in an understanding of what participation requires.
As the field moves toward regulatory approval and clinical implementation, there is a real risk of developing protocols that are technically sound but misaligned with what patients actually need. The Norrsken Mind Lived Experience Fellowship is a small step towards a psychedelic field grounded, to a larger extent, by the lived experience of trial participants.
